Tess Torrisi is a Sydney-based Costume Designer whose body of work includes both short and feature films.
Most recently, Tess has completed production on short A Year Without Summer (dir. Archie Hancock and Jack Zimmerman), starring Ed Oxenbould and Joe Bird. She was also featured in IF Magazine’s Rising Talent 2024: Costume Designers.
After completing her introduction to fashion at the cutting edge Fashion Design Studio - Ultimo TAFE, Tess sharpened her eye for clothing and character at the prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) where she studied Production and Costume Design. Her career began with designing several critically acclaimed short films that have had international success: Voice Activated (dir. Steve Anthopoulos, 2022), which was selected by Tribeca Film Festival and AACTA nominated for Best Short Film; LGBTQ+ Los Angeles Film Festival selected YANNIS (dir. James Elazzi, 2022), with Too Many Ethnics (dir. Vonne Patiag, 2021) included at Flickerfest; To Freely Flourish (dir. Victor Wu, 2024) saw success at Beijing Queer Film Festival; and Seeds of Gold (dir. James Elazzi, 2023) was a semi-finalist at Prague, Florence and Melbourne Film Festivals.
Making her way into feature films, Tess designed The Big Dog (dir. Dane McCusker/2C Pictures, Pivot Pictures, 2022), a black dramedy about toxic masculinity in Australian society. Tess’ other feature credits include supernatural thriller Salt Along the Tongue (dir. Parish Malfitano, 2024) which premiered at SXSW.
